Description:

This fellowship is a collaboration between the Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR) and the Center for Innovative and Transformative Instruction. It offers hands-on experiences in digital literacy and research, focusing on using technology and the Adobe Platform to share research findings. Fellows will work directly with faculty mentors on research projects and gain valuable skills in data analysis, innovation, and digital dissemination.

This fellowship pays a monthly stipend of $500.

Fellowship Objectives:

  • Train students to disseminate research using technology and the Adobe platform.
  • Actively engage in research training.

  • Develop innovative methods to share research findings.

Fellow Expectations:

  • Duration: 1 semester (with the possibility of renewal for another semester)
  • Weekly Commitment: 10 hours (3 hours of “course time” + 7 hours of research)
  • Meetings: Weekly meetings with the faculty mentor (1-3 hours)
  • Mid-Point Assessment: Progress review and continuation plan at mid-point (March).
  • Final Deliverables:
    • Completed research project or creative work due by December 16th, 2024, or May 12th, 2025
    • Presentation at WSSU Scholarship Day and a professional conference

Learning Outcome Theme: Digital Literacy

Description:  This fellowship is a collaborative effort between The Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR), sponsored and financially supported by The Center for Innovative and Transformative Instruction. The fellowship provides scholarly hands-on experiences for application-based projects, transferable skill building, and meaningful projects that collaborates with faculty and High Impact Practices through Undergraduate Research opportunities. Student fellows will work directly with faculty research mentors on a research project and transform their work using the Adobe Platform to disseminate their findings.

 Student Research Fellows will be mentored by the faculty mentor and the director of OUR who will assist in providing access to data, training, and research assistance. The Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR) will assist with the research process (i.e., identify the research question, literature review, and creative works) as well as provide professional development workshop series over the duration of the fellowship to empower research fellows with transferable skills necessary for research and career preparation.

Fellowship Objectives:

  1. Develop training to students to disseminate research findings using technology and the Adobe platform.
  2. Actively participate in research training.
  3. Assess, interpret and/or evaluate outcomes of research.
  4. Develop innovative ideas to share research findings.

 

  1. Fellow Expectations:

Time frame: 1 semester, with consideration of an additional semester renewal.

    1. Students will spend a total of 10 hours per week meeting with the faculty mentor for “course time” and completing research work. This is a combination of 3 hours of “course time” and 7 hours of unsupervised research work (this may include but is not limited to: review of relevant literature, analysis, data collection, inquiry, data management, creative works, innovation, community engagement, etc.).
    2. Meet with the at a designated time faculty mentor once a week for 1-3hrs. 

 

    1. Weekly reports will be due: Faculty mentor will request an appropriate deliverable, project, etc.
    2. Mid-point Assessment: Students will be expected to complete half of the work by the mid-point (i.e., March). This time will be used to expand upon the research project; data management, project management and continuation of the research project.
  1. At midpoint, weekly reports will be discussed, approved and a continuation plan will be shared with each fellow.

 

    1. Each fellow will complete a project by the end of the fellowship. The completed research project or creative work will be due to the Faculty mentor and OUR by December 16th, 2024 or May 12th, 2025.  We encourage research mentors to publish findings with fellows.

 

    1. Each project will have both digital literacy and innovative components (this fellowship is open to all disciplines/majors).

 

    1. Final Assessment: At the completion of the Fellowship (December or May), each student will:
  1. Produce a flexible discipline specific research project or an innovative plan.
  2. Final Paper or Completed Creative Work
  • Present at the WSSU Scholarship Day Celebration AND 1 Professional Conference (CUR, SNCURS, or discipline specific conference).

  

    1. Students will participate in a Professional Development Workshop Series hosted by the Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR). This workshop series will provide professional development, implement high impact practices by offering an engaging learning community for fellows (at least) three times a semester for professional development, networking, and providing exposure and awareness as students navigate research, field work, and application of knowledge in the research setting.

 Assessments of growth throughout the workshop series will be conducted and fellows will complete surveys and focus groups to assess levels of engagement and information learned over the course of the academic year.

 

    1. Students will have the opportunity to complete professional training within this fellowship.

 

  1. Fellow Compensation:

Student Fellows will be compensated for their time. IF the student has satisfied the responsibilities noted above, students will receive a monthly stipend of $500/month.
