- (Find this under Grants & Fellowships) Fellowship Description: This fellowship is a collaborative effort between The Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR), sponsored and financially supported by The Center of Entrepreneurship and Social Innovation (CESI) engaging various community partners. The fellowship provides scholarly hands-on experiences for application-based projects, transferable skill building, meaningful projects that collaborates with community organizations, businesses, and agencies that improve upon the Winston-Salem and WSSU communities and populations.
This fellowship will offer interdisciplinary intersectionality with a focus of community engagement, entrepreneurship and/or social innovation, and sustainability. Student Research Fellows will be mentored by the program coordinator and the director of OUR who will assist in providing access to data, training, and research assistance. The Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR) will assist with the research process (i.e., identify the research question, literature review, and creative works) as well as provide professional development workshop series over the duration of the fellowship to empower research fellows with transferable skills necessary for research and career preparation.

- Cultural Arts and Historical Restoration Fellowship
- Fellows will illuminate the Black/African American story from a local and national perspective. The project will allow students to illustrate how the Happy Hill neighborhood fits into the macro context. We will depict lived experiences through highlighting eras of Jim Crow, civil rights, and other landmark movements that shaped the African American experiences locally and nationally.
By detail, we frame how the Happy Hill Neighborhood, and the larger W-S community compares with that of social factors/ problems, and lived experiences connect with that of the macro perspective/context. Discussion of social ties and connections across populations, transient populations, economic factors comparisons will be explored within the narrative. (Black neighborhood, movements, etc. comparisons nationally).

Interested in pursuing research or a career in archaeology, digital heritage, and/or African American history? The Cultural Heritage and Archaeology Research Group (CHARG) is looking for undergraduate student researchers to work on a variety of projects. These efforts are designed to incorporate students, who will learn skills in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), archaeology, and community engaged scholarship.
