Students from Winston-Salem State University’s Mass Communications program embarked on a field trip to Atlanta during fall break, immersing themselves in the world of film and media. A highlight of the trip was the opportunity for students to shadow various positions on a two-day independent film shoot, “Nature of the Threat.”

Winston-Salem State University’s Office of Integrated Marketing Communications has won two Telly Awards for a recruitment video in the record-breaking 45th Annual Telly Awards.

Winston-Salem State University will host its first esports competitive event this month to further expose students to the growing gaming industry. WSSU Campus Clash will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30, at the University Recreation Game Room and Salon on campus.

WSSU Motorsports Management student Rajah Caruth is the focus of Jack Gordon's “Outside Line,” a documentary short film. Making its North Carolina debut at the RiverRun International Film Festival, the film chronicles Caruth’s journey from virtual racing driver to professional driver in NASCAR’s national touring series.

After an internal search process, I am pleased to announce the interim appointment of Dr. Montrale Boykin as the interim Dean of the Graduate College effective December 1, 2022. Dr. Boykin’s appointment is for one year. We will conduct a national search for a permanent dean during the 2023 calendar year. Dr. Boykin previously served as the co-chairperson of the Department of Health Care Management in the School of Health Sciences at Winston-Salem State University since 2012.

On October 25 Winston-Salem State University’s Political Action Committee in conjunction with Black Voters Matter and Common Cause organized a march to the polls that brought out over 200 students and trended on the @blackvotersmtr Twitter account with over 394,000 views.

Winston-Salem State University employee Tiffany Turner Lynch was awarded the prestigious Governor’s Award for Excellence in the category of Efficiency and Innovation. 

Rod Isom has been elevated to chief audit risk and compliance officer at Winston-Salem State University, effective immediately.

Haley Gingles has been appointed chief marketing officer (CMO) at Winston-Salem State University.

Thesha Woodley has been appointed director of alumni engagement for Winston-Salem State University, where she will lead the creation of programs and services to effectively manage and sustain relationships with the over 30,000 alumni.

Winston-Salem State University has partnered with Barnes & Noble College to implement BNC First Day® Complete, a course material delivery model that will drive student success by ensuring all students are prepared to begin learning on the first day of class.

First Day® Complete, an innovative course material delivery model, addresses equitable access, convenience, and affordability across all courses at an institution by bundling the cost of course materials into tuition and ensuring students have all their materials for the semester available on or before the first day of class. WSSU will cover all associated expenses so that no additional costs will be passed on to students.

WSSU Department of World Languages and Culture will now offer the STARTALK intensive Chinese summer program in a digital format. Beginning July 12, the three-week program that explores the Mandarin language and Chinese culture will be available to high school and college students from anywhere in the world.

WSSU has been recognized once again as a Top 10 Military Friendly School for its caring and supportive learning environment for veteran and military students.

WSSU and North Carolina A&T education departments held a joint virtual town hall meeting to discuss the implication of racial trauma on educator preparation on Oct. 27.

WSSU’s School of Health Sciences has secured just over $5 million in grants to directly support students in the Clinical Laboratory Sciences and Occupational Therapy departments.

WSSU Job Corps Scholars Program has secured a U.S Department of Labor Job Corps Scholars grant for $1,186,900. The grant will allow the university to enroll 40 students per year in an intensive two-year career preparation program.

Twelve future soldiers took the oath of enlistment on Winston-Salem State University’s campus during a mass Future Soldier Swearing-in Ceremony administered from space by Army astronaut Col. Andrew Morgan on Feb. 26.
