The WSSU RESILIENCE Program
Winston-Salem State University urges all members of the campus community to build up their resilience to be successful academically, socially, emotionally, and financially. Being resilient helps people to thrive and prosper in all areas of their lives.
Thanks to a large grant from the UNC System the university has created the WSSU RESILIENCE Program which will offer workshops, courses, discussions, one-on-one interactions, trainings, as well as enable WSSU to host a national conference on our campus. All members of the campus community—students, faculty, and staff—are invited to engage in these empowering events.
- Tap into your creativity.
- Face adversity.
- Speak up against injustice.
- Learn from failure.
- Use your emotional intelligence.
- Overcome obstacles.
- Make healthy decisions.
- Advocate for yourself and others.
Please plan to join us for these workshops, presentations, and trainings throughout the year. Also, please mark your calendar to attend the national Academic Resilience Consortium Conference from April 3-5, 2024, on the campus of WSSU.
The Academic Resilience Consortium (ARC) states that “academic resilience can be broadly defined in terms of capacities such as persistence, creativity, emotional intelligence, grit, thriving, cognitive flexibility, agency, flourishing, adaptation, addressing social justice and equity, learning from failure and success, and overcoming adversity.”
The Academic Resilience Consortium (ARC) is an association of faculty, staff, and students in higher education who are dedicated to understanding and promoting student resilience. Members represent many functions in higher education, such as learning services, counseling services, advising programs, academic departments, and bridge programs. The Consortium currently includes 600+ members from 360+ schools in 45 US states and 17 countries.
WSSU Provost Dr. Kathy Stitts is the current Chair of ARC.
Wellness Wednesday are a chance to head over to UREC and engage in mindful practices to relax, ease your mind, and engage your body in gentle, yet productive ways. Wellness Wednesdays happen during the academic year each Wednesday. Look at the calendar for a list of Wellness Wednesday activities.
Mental Health Days are your chance to engage in decompression activities such as petting therapy dogs, getting a chair massage, sipping tea, coloring in books, and other activities intended to ease the stresses of your semester.
