Complaints to the Accrediting Body
Any individual who would like to file a complaint with CAPTE regarding what appears to be the Winston-Salem State University DPT Program’s inability to meet an evaluative criterion may do so by following the directions provided on the Complaints page of the CAPTE website, or may call the Department of Accreditation of APTA at 703-706-3245.
Complaints involving faculty, staff or students of the Department of Physical Therapy
Complaints involving faculty, staff or students, discrimination or harassment, or complaints involving grades or academic integrity, should follow the procedures outlined in the Winston-Salem State University DPT Student Handbook or the Winston-Salem State University Policies and Procedures for Faculty and Staff. Winston-Salem State University faculty, staff and students are protected from retaliation for complaints made in good faith.

Licensure
The Department of Physical Therapy in the School of Health Sciences offers the Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree plan which is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE). Winston-Salem State University DPT graduates meet all education requirements for licensure through the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy (FSBPT) in all states and territories. Graduates of the program will be eligible to take the National Physical Therapy Examination (NPTE), developed and administered by The Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy. Please note that a felony conviction may affect a graduate's ability to take the NPTE. Determination of eligibility to take the licensure exam is by the state board(s) of physical therapy examiners.
The Department of Physical Therapy at Winston-Salem State University is committed to the timely payment of all accreditation fees and submission of required documentation to CAPTE. The departmental chair submits all required documentation by scheduled due dates to CAPTE and submits issued invoices in a timely manner to the university for payment. The university is responsible for payment of the required fee by the due date.
Program Outcomes
Graduates from our program have achieved excellent outcomes. Our most recent two-year average (2021 – 2022) for ultimate licensure passage rate is 98% and for first time passage rate is 94.2% on the National Physical Therapy Exam (NPTE). Most schools end in May where there is a flood of new DPT students looking for jobs. Our students complete the program in December and have no trouble gaining employment (100% employed) after licensure. Below are the outcome data for specific classes from the last 3 years:
