Step 1
Submit an Internal Notice of Intent (INOI) form to the Sponsored Programs by the INOI deadline.
- To be considered for a limited submissions proposal competition, the Project Investigator (PI) must submit an Internal Notice of Intent (INOI) to the Sponsored Programs.
- The INOI form must be submitted prior to the internal submission deadline set by Sponsored Programs.
- The INOI is used by Sponsored Programs to schedule proposal submissions and to determine proposal requirements, deadlines, and other specific guidelines based on the desired solicitation.
Sponsored Programs will hold an internal competition if and only if Sponsored Programs receives more INOIs than can be submitted by a single institution. - If the number of INOIs submitted by the internal deadline are less than or equal to the number of proposals that can be submitted by a single institution, there will be no competition and Sponsored Programs will contact the prospective PIs to schedule a proposal development meeting.
- If an internal competition is required, Sponsored Programs will request a project summary/abstract from PIs who met the INOI submission deadline.
- Prospective PIs must submit a project summary/abstract to Sponsored Programs in order to be considered for funding during the internal competition. The project summary/abstract is used to give a brief overview of the proposed project.
Step 2
Sponsored Programs forwards all proposal summaries/abstracts received from prospective PIs by the INOI deadline to the appropriate Chief Research Officer (CRO) for review.
- Sponsored Programs reviews the INOIs and proposal summaries/abstracts to ensure that all essential information has been provided by the prospective PIs.
- Sponsored Programs will forward the names and abstracts of prospective PIs who submitted INOIs by the internal submission deadline to the appropriate CRO.
Step 3
Chief Research Officer review and assess all proposal summaries for submission worthiness.
- The CRO will review the relevant funding announcement.
- The CRO will determine if a selection review committee will be formed based upon the guidelines of the funding announcement.
- The CRO and/or selection review committee will examine and assess the proposal summaries for academic merit and proposal readiness according to the relative funding announcement.
Step 4
Chief Research Officers (CROs) forward the proposals selected for submission to Sponsored Programs.
- The CRO and/or selection review committee will select the proposals to be submitted to the funding agency and forward them to Sponsored Programs.
- Sponsored Programs will contact the prospective PIs to schedule a proposal development meeting.
