Summer Financial Aid

In an effort to improve the student experience, WSSU will no longer require a separate application for Summer Financial Aid!

Students desiring financial aid for summer school should register early. There is no application process for summer school. Students who are registered for summer classes will receive an email from the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid (OSFA) if they are eligible for aid. Students are encouraged to check their Banner Rams email and their 2020-21 Financial Aid Tab on MyWSSU Portal.

NOTE: Summer term is considered the last term of the academic year. A student who has already filed the 2020-21 FAFSA is covered for Fall 2020, Spring 2021, and Summer 2021. 2021-22 FAFSAs are not considered for Summer 2021 aid. Students without a processed 2020-21 FAFSA can complete it at studentaid.gov. Remember to include the WSSU Federal School Code - 002986.

  • You must be advised by your academic advisor and register for summer school in the session(s) desired. Students are encouraged to register early and to register for all courses upfront. All classes must appear in Banner.
  • Students must be admitted to a degree seeking program to be eligible for financial aid
  • Undergraduate students must enroll in > 6 credit hours to be eligible for Federal Pell Grant and Federal Direct Student Loan opportunities. Graduate students must be enrolled in > 6 credit hours to be eligible for Federal Unsubsidized Direct Loan and Grad PLUS opportunities.
  • Summer financial aid awards will be based on the number of hours enrolled, residency, and living status. Financial aid awards may be adjusted if your status changes.
  • Student financial aid awards may include a combination of Federal Pell Grants and Direct Student Loans for eligible undergraduates. Parents of undergraduate dependent students and graduate students may apply for PLUS Loans using the normal application process at studentaid.gov.
  • Financial aid for summer school will be cancelled if students fail to achieve and/or maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) at the end of the spring semester. Students receiving grades of “F”, “W”, and/or “I” may experience cancelled or reduced financial aid which may cause a balance due to the university. Students may be required to repay funds disbursed during summer school if you drop a class, the class is cancelled by the university, you never attend, or withdraw from classes.
  • Students who are not eligible for Summer Financial Aid include the following:
    • Students not in a degree program;
    • Visiting students from another college or university;
    • Special students; and
    • Students not maintaining Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP).
