ABOUT THE WSSU 40 UNDER 40 PROGRAM

Presented by the Young Alumni Council, the 40 Under 40 Awards celebrate and provides recognition to 40 accomplished alumni of our beloved Alma Mater, Winston-Salem State University, who have recently graduated and demonstrate continued success and/or made significant contributions toward the betterment and uplift of their communities and beyond.

ELIGIBILITY

The WSSU 40 under 40 Awards are open to individuals under the age of 40, who have made significant impacts in the category areas, and are able to connect their achievements back to knowledge and/or experiences gained from WSSU.

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

Please fill out the following application to be considered for WSSU 40 Under 40:

  • Complete all required fields in the application.
  • Upload a current resume and biography.
  • Upload two letters of recommendation from individuals who can support your application for the award.

SUBMISSION

All applications must be submitted electronically by deadline. Materials submitted after the deadline will not be considered. It is the responsibility of each applicant to ensure that his/her application is correct and complete. Judges reserve the right to disqualify any applicant for lack of completion of the required information.

Both Self and third party nominations are accepted. Nominations must included information about the candidate, their career and leadership and their current relationship with WSSU. A nominee submission should demonstrate the candidate’s leadership in their chosen career, provide details about their profession journey, with details regarding their dedication and initiatives within their company/organization/business and its success. An important component to this recognition program is a candidate's involvement in both their personal and WSSU community. Please include information on any involvement outside of the candidate’s chosen career, such as mentoring, community activities or volunteer work, in their community or with WSSU. Include insight that might help our judges in making a decision.

All items submitted for purposes of the WSSU 40 under 40 become the sole property of, the Young Alumni Council, the Office of Alumni Engagement, Division of University Advancement at Winston-Salem State University, to be used for the purpose of selecting nominees and displaying achievements. AWARD SELECTION

Applications will be reviewed and will consider all answers to each question, the nominee’s level of professional achievement, demonstrated leadership, as well as their community and/or university impact. WSSU 40 under 40 recipients in each industry/category will be determined by a selection committee comprised of a diverse group of alumni and current student leaders. All applicants will receive notification of the finalists in each industry/category.
