Class of Spring 2024 Success Stories: Where Are They Headed? - Part Three of Four

Several students from Winston-Salem State University’s Sport Management program walked across the stage at commencement on May 10, 2024. Here are some success stories of these impressive scholars.

Niyah Mullins

Niyah Mullins

Major: Sport Management

Hometown: Charlotte, NC

Activities: I was the WSSU Men's Basketball Manager for 2 years, Secretary for Sport Management Majors Club, President of the Sports and Entertainment Organization.

How has WSSU helped you develop as a person?

WSSU has developed me in so many ways but mostly just showing me to step out of my comfort zone because you never know how you can elevate when you put yourself in new spaces.

What will you miss most about WSSU?

What I will miss most about WSSU is my Ramilyyyyyy! WSSU is a home away from home for me. If I didn't feel that community aspect, I don't even know how I would've made it. I will miss my professors as well.

Next step: I will be attending graduate school at Clark Atlanta University to get an MBA in Sports and Entertainment Management.

Ashanti Burns

Major: Sport Management

Hometown: Linden, NJ

Activities: I was a women’s basketball manager for the 23-24 season, and I am also a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc.

What advice would you give to someone who was considering attending WSSU?

The advice I would give is that we don’t call it Ramily for nothing. Everyone here from the students, to professors, to staff are welcoming in their own way. If you have questions, you’re going to get it answered by someone on this campus.

Next step:
After I graduate, I plan to pursue a job in sports management by working in recreation. I then plan to go to graduate school and get master’s degree in Communications and Marketing.

Zion Holley

Zion Holley

Major: Sport Management

Hometown: Mount Holly, NC

Activities: I was involved in game day operations and UREC.

How has WSSU helped you develop as a person?

WSSU helped me become more outgoing. I learned how to stand out and let my name be remembered in every room that I walk in. I’ve also learned not be scared to try new things to better myself and the people around me.

Next step: I am looking forward to finding a full-time job and starting my career and life.

Jakyla Harvey

Major: Sport Management

Hometown: Pantego, NC

Activities: I have had the pleasure of being a part of Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society and the WSSU Sport Management Major Club.

How has WSSU helped you develop as a person?

WSSU has provided me with a solid foundation of skills, knowledge, and field experience. Through internships and networking, I’ve gained valuable insights and connections that will serve me well. The challenges that I’ve encountered have also shaped my determination and adaptability in any situation.

Next steps: I will attend graduate school or find a job in my field.
