Letter from Chancellor Robinson – Events at UNCC

Dear Ram Family,

As fellow citizens of North Carolina and fellow members of the University of North Carolina family, our hearts are breaking following the news of a shooting at UNC-Charlotte last night. My heart goes out to the families and friends of those killed and injured. I offer Winston-Salem State University’s deepest condolences in this time of great loss.

We understand that many of you may feel unsettled and concerned. Many members of our campus community call Charlotte home and have friends and loved ones who attend or are employed by UNC-Charlotte. As a member of the Ram Family, you have a wonderful support system of not only your family and friends, but also your professors, and university staff. In coping with grief and the aftermath of this and any traumatic event, I encourage members of the campus community to reach out to one another for support. I urge any students, faculty or staff who need support to contact the WSSU Counseling Center by calling 336-750-3270 or stopping by the A.H. Ray building. No one needs to feel alone on this campus; we are a community that cares for, supports, and assists one another.

As the semester wraps up and you prepare for “the next step” – whether it is summer school classes, an internship, a job or post-graduation life, remember that we are all here for you.  We believe in you and in your ability to make your dreams become reality. Thank you for all that you do to make Winston-Salem State University a great place to study, live, and work.

Sincerely,

Elwood L. Robinson, Ph.D.
