Golden LEAF Foundation president visits WSSU
Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) students met with Golden LEAF Foundation President Dan Gerlach during a campus visit on Monday, Jan. 14.
Currently, 12 WSSU students receive scholarships from Golden LEAF. The program provides scholarships to help students from qualifying rural counties who demonstrate a financial need attend college at a colleges and universities in North Carolina.
“We are proud to partner with the Golden LEAF Foundation to help deserving students achieve their dreams,” said Dr. LaTanya Afolayan, vice chancellor of University Advancement.
Along with WSSU’s Golden LEAF Scholars and Afolayan, Chancellor Elwood L. Robinson; Provost Anthony Graham; College of Arts, Sciences, Business and Education Dean Darryl Scriven; School of Health Sciences Dean Peggy Valentine; and Libba Evans, a member of the WSSU Foundation Board of Directors and a founding member of the Golden LEAF Board of Directors, attended the luncheon.
Students who participate in the Golden LEAF program over four years can earn up to $8,830 in stipends. Qualified high school seniors and community college transfer students may apply for Golden LEAF scholarships through March 1. Golden LEAF was established in 1999. As part of the Foundation’s 20th anniversary, Gerlach is traveling the state in 2019 to visit sites and people affected by Golden LEAF grants.
