Student selected to OT emerging leaders program
Leah Pelletier, a graduate student in Winston-Salem State University’s Occupational Therapy program, has been selected to the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) Emerging Leaders Development Program.
Pelletier will attend the two-day program in September.
The program provides leadership training and ongoing mentorship. Once chosen, candidates participate in a formal face-to-face leadership institute at AOTA headquarters in Bethesda, Maryland, and are paired with a mentor. Pelletier, originally from Salem, Massachusetts, is only the second WSSU student to be selected for the honor.
“Being accepted into the program means that I can support the strategic priorities of AOTA and use my leadership skills through direct participation with AOTA and its members,” she said. “I am interested in working in two emerging fields of practice – community-based programming and mental health – and it is my goal through this program to direct my efforts to supporting AOTA in advancing our role in these fields.”
Pelletier earned her bachelor’s degree from Syracuse University.
WSSU offers the only master’s-level occupational therapy program in the Triad.
