The Winston-Salem State University Scholarship for Disadvantaged Students in Occupational Therapy aims to address the nation’s “workforce gap” of underrepresented minorities and disadvantaged Occupational Therapy practitioners by providing scholarships to cover the cost of tuition and fees to promising OT students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
The scholarship is available for students who meet the following criteria: first-generation college students, educationally disadvantaged, and/or financially disadvantaged. Recipients must be enrolled in the MSOT full-time (nine hours or more) and be a United State Citizen*, have a financial need, and be FAFSA eligible.
The Occupational Therapy Department will open the application portal in March of each applicable year; awards for the following academic year will be announced by July 1. Students must apply annually for the scholarship.

The American Occupational Therapy Foundation
Over 50 scholarships are available from the American Occupational Therapy Foundation (AOTF) and state occupational therapy associations. Applicants must be currently enrolled and have completed at least 1 year of occupational therapy specific coursework in an AOTA accredited or developing post-professional level program OR enrolled in an occupational therapy assistant program.
AMBUCS
A national service club with an emphasis on scholarships for therapy students. Students must be accepted in an accredited program by the appropriate health therapy profession.
College Foundation of North Carolina
Forgivable Loan - North Carolina Residents only
Established by the North Carolina General Assembly in 2011, the Forgivable Education Loans for Service provides financial assistance to qualified students enrolled in an approved education program and committed to working in critical employment shortage professions in North Carolina.
Fieldwork: Fieldwork courses are designed to provide students with extended opportunities to practice various roles in clinical and community-based settings, as well as, in emerging areas of Occupational Therapy Practice.

The Occupational Therapy program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE®).
ACOTE® accredited Occupational Therapy programs satisfy the states’ educational requirements in all states, the District of Columbia, Guam and Puerto Rico. Students graduating from an ACOTE® accredited Occupational Therapy educational program are eligible to take the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) certification exam and apply for licensure in all states, the District of Columbia, Guam and Puerto Rico. For more information regarding state qualifications and licensure requirements, please refer to the AOTA State Licensure web page. The next accreditation self- study and onsite visit are scheduled in 2026/2027.
