What is Rev?Rev logo

Rev is a closed captioning service we have partnered with to create closed captions for our videos. It is available to all faculty and staff at WSSU!

Why Closed Captioning?

Closed captioning is necessary for people that are deaf or hard of hearing to receive the important information from the videos we create. Even people with hearing often use the closed captioning in videos to clarify what is being said or to be able to watch a video in an environment where they can’t use sound.

It’s the law! It is a federal mandate that all digital materials we produce be accessible to people with disabilities. That means 100% of the videos we share with students, employees, or the public, must be closed captioned! Learn more about digital accessibility guidelines here.

How do I access Rev?

You can request Rev’s closed captioning service by submitting this RAMTech ticket. Be sure you video is ready, approved, and final so that it only needs to be submitted once. Once the captions are created, we will send them to you to apply to your video hosting service. You can learn more by visiting our Rev closed captioning web page.

Helpful Tips

  • Before submitting your ticket, watch your video and verify that the dialog is exactly how you want it. The captioning process should only be done once to avoid costly remakes.
  • If you prefer, you can make your own captions for your videos using Camtasia's built in software. You can view a tutorial on Camtasia captions here.
  • If you plan to use YouTube to host your video, you can take advantage of YouTube's captioning capabilities as well. You can learn more about YouTube captioning in our own tutorial video, or see YouTube's support documentation.
