WSSU’s RJ Mobley Selected to Chicago Minicamp
Winston-Salem State University football wide receiver RJ Mobley has been selected to the Chicago Bears minicamp.
Mobley, who played two seasons with the Rams, played in every game the last two seasons. This season, he totaled 43 receptions for 598 yards and 7 touchdowns. He also had his season high in yards - 113 - during the first game of the season against North Carolina Central University. In his first season with the Rams, he totaled 21 receptions for 442 yards with five touchdowns.
He was named to the ALL-CIAA First Team and was the Black College Hall of Fame Offensive Player of the Game against Central State. His longest touchdown was 72 yards in a win over St. Augustine's University (SAU). He was also named CIAA Receiver of the Week for week eight after having all-season highs in the game against SAU.
“Being signed to a rookie minicamp by the Chicago Bears after a long draft is a mix of disappointment and excitement,” said Mobley. “It's like getting a second chance to prove yourself and show the team what they missed out on during the draft. There's a hunger to prove your worth and make a lasting impression during the minicamp, knowing that this could be the start of something big.”
The last person from Winston-Salem State to be drafted was William Hayes in 2008 in the fourth round to the Tennessee Titans.
“This is a great opportunity for RJ,” said head Coach Robert Massey. “The chance to work and grow with a talented young quarterback in Caleb Williams is great. This is a good day for the WSSU football program.”
