On the Move: New additions to WSSU’s senior leadership team
Winston-Salem State University Chancellor Elwood L. Robinson has filled five key leadership positions at the university since January.
“These gifted leaders bring extensive higher education experience and a new perspective on how we can provide a high-quality experience to our students,” Robinson said. “ I am thrilled to have individuals of this caliber helping WSSU achieve the goals outlined in the Strategic Plan for 2016-21.”

LaTanya Afolayan, Vice Chancellor for University Advancement and Executive Director of the WSSU Foundation
Dr. LaTanya Afolayan has worked in the University of North Carolina System most of her career. She has served as the vice chancellor for advancement for Elizabeth City State University and North Carolina Central University. Additionally, she served as a member of the major gifts leadership team at Appalachian State University during a $200 million capital campaign.
As vice chancellor for University Advancement, Afolayan is responsible for enhancing donor discovery efforts; growing the Annual Fund; expanding the principal and major gifts pipeline; leveraging corporate and foundation relationships; engaging and mobilizing alumni, friends, and volunteers; and expanding and strengthening a sustainable infrastructure to support future fundraising efforts and campaigns.

Anthony Graham, Provost and Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs
Dr. Anthony Graham joins WSSU after serving as dean of the College of Education and professor of educator preparation at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (North Carolina A&T).
Since 2003, Graham has served in the North Carolina A&T Department of Education in various capacities – including as chair of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction. Previously, Graham worked as a high school English teacher and as an academic counselor/lecturer in the Center for Student Success at NC A&T. In these roles, Graham advocated for student success and worked with colleagues to conceptualize, design, and implement initiatives and programs that promoted student growth and development.
As provost, Graham is the chief educational and administrative officer, leading the university in its academic and student support planning and in the setting of policies and practices that lead to student success outcomes at WSSU.

Jaime Hunt, Vice Chancellor, Division of Strategic Communications
Jaime Hunt joined WSSU as the director of public and media relations and chief communications and marketing officer in 2015.
Since joining the university, Hunt has garnered eight industry awards; led the development of an integrated marketing communications model for campus; developed and rolled out refreshed brand messaging and an updated visual identity, including a new institutional logo and a new Ram logo; developed a comprehensive crisis communication plan; worked with Information Technology to redesign the university’s website; and enhanced the university’s media relations efforts, resulting in a 50 percent increase in positive media mentions.
As vice chancellor for strategic communication, Hunt communicates the university’s brand message to key stakeholders at the highest level. The division includes the Office of Integrated Marketing Communications (IMC), which now also includes Enrollment Communications; the Office of External Relations; and WSNC radio.
Constance Mallette, Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration
Constance Mallette previously served in various financial management roles at multiple UNC institutions, including serving as the assistant vice president-finance for the University of North Carolina System.
In 2015, Mallette became the associate vice chancellor for Finance and Administration at WSSU. In this role, she provided leadership, strategic direction, and oversight of financial planning, reporting, and operational analysis for senior management while promoting operational efficiencies through various technology initiatives.
As vice chancellor and chief financial officer (CFO), Mallette has administrative oversight for Financial Planning and Budget, Financial Services, Business and Auxiliary Services, and Facilities Management.

Darryl Scriven, Dean of the College of Art, Sciences, Business and Education
Dr. Darryl Scriven joins WSSU’s after serving as chair of the Department of Visual Arts, Humanities and Theatre and an associate professor of philosophy at Florida A&M University (FAMU).
At FAMU, he led a multidisciplinary department with four major programs, five minors
As dean, Scriven is the academic and administrative leader of the College of Arts, Sciences, Education and Business (CASBE) and its more than 200 full-time and part-time faculty members in 19 departments. CASBE enrolls more than 3,300 students in courses each year. He also will deliver a series of university-wide lectures this fall as the John W. and Anna H. Hanes Distinguished Professor in the Humanities.
