Chancellor's Thanksgiving Letter

Dear Ram Family,

As Thanksgiving nears, I think of a remark by Henry David Thoreau: “I am grateful for what I am and have. My thanksgiving is perpetual.” At Winston-Salem State University, we strive to continually remain in a place of gratitude. We know how blessed we are to live in this time and to be in this place. Let’s use the holiday as a reminder to be thankful for all that we have and to commit ourselves to use our gifts to make the world better.

This year has provided many opportunities for joy as we celebrated our 125 years of existence. The year has also brought sorrow as we have lost several cherished members of the Ram Family. I admire our strong and caring campus community for coming together in times of celebration and times of mourning. Our strength lies in the love we share for this institution and the enduring bonds we create with one another.

Personally, I am thankful for the opportunity to serve this campus is its Chancellor. This university has had a tremendous impact on not only its graduates, but also on the state and the world. Lives have been transformed through the work happening here. I am honored to be among so many people who embody our university’s motto: Enter to Learn. Depart to Serve.

As we approach the Thanksgiving break, let us be thankful for one another and for our great university. We are truly blessed to be a part of the Ram Family.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Elwood L. Robinson, Ph.D.
Chancellor
